If you are a Step Up fan like us, you would have been shocked by Channing Tatum and  Jenna Dewan Tatum’s announcement this morning.

Here’s the statement on social media they shared that read in part, “We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together. Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now. There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision — just two best-friends realizing it’s time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible.”

In this post, we bring you the 5 things you didn’t know about Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan’s love story. Just… just get your tissue boxes ready.

1. That instant attraction.

Jenna’s manager called her one day and said she’ll be doing a dance movie with a new hottie, Tatum Channing (yes, the manager said it backwards). Though she showed up late (and saw someone else almost kissing him in an audition), Jenna was instantly attracted to him because obviously, “he’s super hot”! Then they did the scenes, and were asked to stand next to each other on camera. They started completely flirting on camera, with her going, “You’re so big! You’re so tall!” and him like, “You dance really good.” The audition clip ends with them just looking at each other being like, “Hi.” They’ve kept the video and had planned to show their daughter, Everly, one day. *sobz*

2. That realization.

Jenna shared that it was one night when Channing was out partying with a bunch of dancers. His room was right above hers in a hotel, and he went down drunk at 2am that night with a straw hat on, banging on her door. He went, “I couldn’t stop thinking about you. Let’s do this. I just want to be with you.” From that point forward, they got together.

3. Their deep appreciation for one another.

This sensual couple was no stranger to public declarations of affection. When their daughter was born, Channing took to Instagram to say, “She has such deep strength and other worldly grace. Watching her in those first days transform into a mother was life changing. She was every bit the beautiful, sexy, funny, flawed creature I fell in love with. But the prism turned and showed a whole new light that I had no idea existed, the light of a mothers love. Thank you for that baby.”

I took this just days after jenna and I (mostly jenna) brought our little girl into the world. I've taken many like it over the past 3 years but this is one of my favorites. She was so tired. Haha. But she has such deep strength and other worldly grace. Watching her in those first days transform into a mother was life changing. She was every bit the beautiful, sexy, funny, flawed creature I fell in love with. But the prism turned and showed a whole new light that I had no idea existed, the light of a mothers love. Thank you for that baby. Saw this quote today –" The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother. Theodore Hesburgh" there are a lot of important things in being a father. Who knows what the most important thing is? All I know is that in my case this is pretty high on my list. Love you cake!

4. The sweetest birthday wishes.

On Jenna’s birthday in 2016, Channing said on Instagram, “I’m not sure if this woman is my Rainbow or my pot of gold but I’m lucky either way happy birthday cake baby!”

And in Dec 2017, such was his wish for her: “This creature is one more year beautiful. The transformation she invoked this year has been something they only write about in books of fairytale and magic. Your strength and grace ever evolving. By doing so you make everything around you grow- everything. And i am so very grateful for your lessons. Happy life day my love. #leica”

5. That proposal.

Before proposing to Jenna, Channing did the unthinkable and made her cry. “When I proposed to my wife I did something pretty cruel because I thought she was on to me,” Channing said in an interview on BBC. “I basically told her I never wanted to get married to try to throw her off.”

“I told her, ‘I don’t believe in the institution of marriage and I don’t think I ever want to get married,'” he continued. “She basically broke down crying. I thought, ‘This is not going well at all,’ so I had to propose to her sooner rather than later.”

Thankfully, he ultimately popped the question in September 2008 while the two were vacationing in Maui. Less than a year later, the couple exchanged “I do’s” in front of family and friends in an outdoor Malibu ceremony in July 2009.

In tears yet?

We leave you with this beautiful video of that dance… that beautiful sunset dance. Please excuse while we huddle in a corner and cry.
