Led by SPH’s newly-formed digital media product division, a team of photographers, designers, SPHTech engineers, and editorial staff collaborated closely to create www.photonico.asia, a visually appealing and user-friendly website that aims to become the go-to place for high-quality stock images on Asia.

Photos are taken off SPH’s rich archives dating back to 1948, as well as a network of local contributors. Photonico now has more than 12,000 images available for purchase, and more will be added to the repository every day.

The website also enables easy navigation – with categories such as Singapore Skyline, Singapore Heritage, Daily Life, Food, Nature and Animals, Business and Asian Countries.

PR companies, commercial designers, content marketers and individuals – look no further if you wish to enhance your visual story-telling with relevant images. Photos published in SPH’s papers can also be purchased in a plaque for keepsake.

SPH Chief Product Officer Mr. Gaurav Sachdeva said: “Photonico reflects SPH’s desire to position itself as a customer-centric company that comes up with products that serve our users’ needs in the most relevant way. Our digital media product team will continue to harness our highly-valued media assets and content creation capabilities to develop innovative products that enrich our users’ life.”

SPH Chief Technology Officer Mr. Glen Francis said: “The classic adage goes, a picture speaks a thousand words. As Photonico grows, our customers will experience the seamless blend of graphic design, artificial intelligence and machine learning — all of which power Photonico’s backend.”

If you would like to have a look at the collection of photos, check out the World Press Photo 2018 exhibition (presented by The Straits Times) where Photonico will be featured! The exhibition will be held from October 6 till October 28 at the National Museum of Singapore.

We hear that 161 prize-winning photographs will be featured at the event – that captures the most powerful, poignant and provocative news images from around the world. In conjunction with the World Press Photo exhibition, The Straits Times will also showcase the best works by its photojournalists taken in 2017 and 2018.
